Do it Yourself Fountain Bubbler | Home Guides. Bubblers gurgle water without flowing into a separate basin. A fountain bubbler gives you the sound of trickling water without much expense or hassle. You have the flexibility to choose a container that matches your landscape design. This simple project can be completed in an afternoon, getting your new water feature up and running quickly. Use the fountain bubbler as a focal point in your yard or as an element in a large landscape island. Choose a large, glazed ceramic planter or other container.
Planters usually have a drainage hole in the bottom, making your installation easier. If you choose a container without a drainage hole, drill a 3/4- inch hole in the bottom for the power cord.
Slide the submersible pump's power cord through the hole in the bottom of the container. Place two bricks or an upside- down terra cotta pot in the container. Set the pump on top of the bricks or pot with the intake port facing down or to the side.
The output port should face up. Seal the drainage hole around the power cord with silicone caulk. Let it dry completely before adding water. Place large rocks or gravel in the bottom of the container surrounding the pump. Fill the container to the same level as the top of the pump. Connect tubing to the output port of the pump, which should be facing up. Use flexible tubing if you're planning to cover the tubing with river rocks or stiff tubing if there will be several inches of water with no rocks at the top of the container.
Cut the tubing to be about 1/2- inch lower than the top of the container, using a utility knife for flexible tubing or a handsaw for stiff tubing. Cover the pump and gravel with river rocks.
Artesian Rock Installation Instructions. Site Preparation Excavate the water feature, sloping it slightly to the pump chamber location.
You can create a pyramid shape with the rocks with the flexible tubing in the middle, allowing the rocks to reach the same height as the top of the container, or you can leave the rocks in a shallow layer with several inches of water above them. The main purpose of these rocks is to hide the pump with a decorative element. Fill the container with water and plug in the pump. The water should begin to bubble up from the tubing and fall back into the container without overflowing. Things You Will Need.
Large planter or container. Drill with 3/4- inch bit.
Submersible fountain pump. Bricks or terra- cotta pot. Large rocks or gravel.
River rocks. Clear flexible tubing or stiff tubing. Silicone caulk. Utility knife or handsaw. Tip. Filling the base of the container with gravel or large rocks makes it less expensive. You can use river rocks, but they can get pricey when you buy enough to fill a large container. Instead of gravel, you can also use upside- down terra- cotta pots. Putting your bubbler near an existing electrical outlet keeps you from having to hide a long extension cord across your lawn.
Always used a GFCI outlet. If you place the bubbler in full sun, check it daily to see if you need to add water. The heat of the sun can quickly evaporate the water. About the Author.
